CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
The Faith + Justice Certificate Program is specifically designed for seminarians and graduate students in religion to equip participants with a theo-ethical vision for substantive engagement in civic and public life, and effective advocacy at local, state, and federal levels. Combining formative content from classroom lectures and guest speakers, congressional meetings on Capitol Hill, and other experiences in the D.C. area, the certificate program constitutes a transformative immersive experience, supplementing academic learning and faith praxis.
June 17-21 2024
HELD ON THE CAMPUS OF
GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY
Situated in our nation’s capital, and drawing on the deep spiritual legacy of Georgetown University and Christian theological resources from broader traditions, the Center on Faith and Justice is uniquely positioned to come alongside current seminarians and graduate students desiring an experiential model of how their training intersects with some of the most pressing moral and theopolitical issues of our time.
In a time when future leaders are being tempted to believe that the sole import of their Christian faith lies in their willingness to move further left or further right, the Faith + Justice Certificate Program intervenes with the call to go deeper.
Testimonies
“There definitely is that summer camp vibe of, ‘I just met you but now I don’t know how I’m going to live without you!”
“I had a chance to go from sleeping in my car to sitting in the White House, where I had a seat at the table and could advocate for the people sleeping outside of that building on the concrete…. where else could I do that but Georgetown, and who else could do that but God?”
“I would say to any Seminary Administrator that this is a worthwhile investment in the lives of your students because it gives them the practical skills and tools to engage not only the biblical text but also to put arms, legs, heart, head, and feet to what they have learned.”
“As someone who is vocationally seeking, it was a really valuable look at how many different ways people of faith can engage in public life. You’re not able to get that kind of exposure to such a variety of leadership in ministry in seminary, even over the course of three years. To be able to listen intently to all those voices in the course of one week, it just lands differently.”
